Results: Round 5 - 24th June 2011

Angus Cowan makes it back-to-back wins !

Below are the top 3 place getters for Round 5 of our AMHGS played at RACV Club Friday 24th June 2011.

1. Angus Cowan
2. Jason Holloway
3. Sam Mohamed

Round 5 was interesting. First we got moved from our normal Club Function Room to the Bayside Room 4 on Level 2 due to a Corporate Function being held there, and then Gus blew-up the gearbox in his van so we didn’t have any Poker tables !! Well, we are a “Home Game Syndicate” !

Here are some Pics!

The Top 3 Place getters
Angus has continued his good form and good luck from last round. Gus fairly early on was extremely short-stacked with around 3k but found ways to double-up a few times to finally find himself heads-up with Jason Holloway.

Holding a 2:1 chip lead, an early move by Gus saw things even-up a bit and in a 30 min heads up saw a see-sawing match, Gus was on life-support when his Jacks got outdrawn by Jason’s flopped King (KT) only to have Gus claw his way back. The final hand went down something like this.

Gus slight chip lead. Jason on Button shoved pre-flop and Gus called;
Jason: 45 (suited) Gus: KQ (offsuit)
  • Flop: 10 5 2
  • Turn: K
  • River: 8
And Gus makes it back-to-back wins !

The leader board standing sees Gus vault past Arnold to 3rd place with Rusty barely ahead in 2nd and Mark still on top. Click on the Leaderboard link in the side bar for more details.

Word is, with Gus’ second win, Bini is feverishly making arrangements to reshuffle his African Trip later this year in order not to miss even one game this season! Now is that Desperation or Dedication? You be the judge.

The points race is starting to heat up, so stay tuned !

As always, if I got any of the details wrong feel free to comment (Bini, set the record straight!)

Poker Eyewear

So you’ve tried wearing Sunglasses at the Poker Table? If you're like me you’ve tried multiple sunglasses from mirrored Sport sunglasses from Oakley to El-Cheapo’s from Big W and the local Petrol station and everything I’ve tried to wear at the Poker Table indoors I just take-off eventually because I can’t see my cards or the colour of the chips for Shit !

Well, I think I’ve found the solution. Playing across from me in Event 4 of JHDSS7 was a dude with some reflective shades I’d seen heaps of players wearing at WSOP and WPT events on T.V. During a break in play I commented on his Sunglasses and he replied they’re not “Sun”glasses but poker eyewear or light enhancing lenses specifically made for playing poker in low light or even night driving. WTF? … I asked him if I could try them on , he handed them from across the table and when I put them on … well … all I can say is .. wow. It did not reduce any light at all and infact seemed to make things a little bit brighter even! I asked him where he got them from and he mentioned a company called Blue Shark Optics in the U.S. Price ranged from $89 - $149 U.S with $30 U.S. Dollars for International shipping.

Check it out at http://www.bluesharkoptics.com

A couple of us are thinking of ordering online (especially with the strong AUD) so let me know in the next week or two if you’re interested and we can probably buy several in one order and save a little on shipping.

JHDSS 7 - Update

Event #1 : $50 NLHE (Re-entry, add-on accumulator) 1,800+ entries in 5 flights.

Allan placed 35th on Sunday 12th for $535 cash.

Event #4 : $200 NLHE (freeze-out Mega-stack 30k Start stack) 280+ entries.

Arnold, Brett Males and Allan again to the field. Brett Males placed 15th for a cash of $560.

Interesting hand: With a tournament average stack of around $180k I had about 420k and was one of the tournament chip leads. Unfortunately I got involved in a re-raising war with the only other stack that could bust me. We eventually got it all-in pre-flop with me holding Aces vs. Queens. but …. You guessed it the dreaded Q hit the river.

Well done to Brett and Allan on cashing and especially to Brett who made his first Tourney cash at Crown.

Don’t forget there are other events still to enter and of course the Main event (see links in previous post or go to www.crownpoker.com.au)

JHDSS7 - Event 1, Day 1, Flight 1 Thu 9/6/11

4 Hardened poker players in our crew took the field for flight 1 Event 1. Arnold Bathan a member of the Aussie Millions Syndicate and 3 “Friends of the Syndicate” : Brett Males, Allan Bathan and Jason Benatsky all of who are Followers of our Aussie Millions Syndicate website as well.

With a 5k Start Bank and 20 Min blind levels the action was fast and furious and once players found out it was also a re-entry event there was sickness to be had. Jason, Brett and Arnold all fell victim before Level 6 and had to re-buy. Allan managed to survive with his initial buy-in.

As the tournament progressed Brett, Jason and Arnold fell by the wayside but Allan was able to stand the test and get into some nice spots to finish Day 1 Flight 1 at 1:40am with 122K in Chips.

Word is that there were approx 450 buy-ins (many multiple re-entries of $50) and about 200 $50 add-ons. So with another 4 more flights and over $30,000 in the prize pool already, the $50k guarantee put up by Crown will be well exceeded.

Good luck to Allan for Day 2 and any of you that may be playing the other Day 1 flights or in other events in the JHDSS7.

Joe Hachem Deep Stack Series 7 - Crown

For those that aren’t aware the Joe Hachem Deep Stack Series 7 (JHDSS7) will commence this Thursday June 9 with Event 1 being a $50 , $50k guarantee. It’s a Repecharge Accumulator Event which means that you can buy into just One or All of the Day 1 Flights (there are 5 of them in total). Any chips you have at the end of each Day1 Flight will be accumulated with any other Day1 flight Chips you ended with that day and brought into your Day 2 Starting Stack on Sunday June 12. Click Here for more info on Event 1

Here is a link to the JHDDS7 Tournament Schedule.

I highly recommend the JHDSS Tournaments for those in our group that don’t play a lot of Live Tournament Poker as these are good value for money and can provide you with reasonable experience (several 2 Day events) that will hold you in good stead if you happen to top the points and represent us at the next Aussie Millions.

I'll be playing Event 1 and 11, so if you're playing also let me know, hopefully I'll see you at one of the Event Final Tables !
